Crysis 2 MP Demo Review

I got the chance to pick up the Crysis 2 Multiplayer Demo for XBox 360 a few times recently. It’s pretty smooth for the most part, the gameplay is pretty solid, and the graphics are top notch. Unfortunately, though, the fastest, easiest way to describe the elements of the design is to start with, “Ok, start with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare…” I’m serious. The demo has basically the same killstreak rewards at 3, 5, and 7 kills, almost all the controls are the same, there are customizable classes, and even 3 selectable “modules” that seem an awful lot like perks.

Now that we have that out of the way, there are a few positive notes for this demo. The player’s suit grants the ability to temporarily enable invisibility and extra armor for a limited time, which adds some fun strategy elements. I also enjoyed the increased mobility provided by large jumps and long sprints. There is a wider selection of modules than perks in the Call of Duty series, and some of them are more like special abilities or game-changers than small, passive perks. As I mentioned, the production value is quite good. I was surprised by the quality of the music. But, at this point, in terms of online play, I already own some Call of Duty games. If I’m especially anticipating this game, it’s because of the single player trailer, which looks awesome:

I agree – the gamedesign is based on the CoD series. I see that as a good thing, because the series is a huge success for a good reason … the gamedesign rocks! And not having to learn (and get used to) a completely new pad configuration is quite welcome by me.

They took the best FPS MP experience so far available (imo) and gave it a Crysis look and feel, added the nanosuit extras for an even deeper gameplay experience. Nice .. I played the demo a little and what I liked most are the extra movement options like sliding on the ground, jumping high and grabbing on to ledges.

I can totally see this game to be a huge success with the online community. After the demo it is a safe buy for me. ^^
