Canyon Terrain Editor Beta 2
Through some recent development, I’ve made some significant improvements on my Canyon Terrain Editor, much of which was based on feedback I received from those who used it. Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. Now that I’m done making those changes, I have uploaded the second beta release of the tool for you to enjoy. Here’s what’s new:
- More convenient starting viewpoint position
- Final texture export option
- Random terrain generation
- Slightly more user-friendly texture user interface
- Updated readme file
- Texture no longer stretches and slides across terrain when changing terrain size
- Black areas no longer appear during texture painting
“What is this final texture export option,” you may ask. Allow me to illustrate with this illuminating diagram:
Canyon Terrain Editor supports texturing by painting on texture distribution maps, which basically define which texture goes where. This would be exported and used in a game engine that displays textures the same way. While this is still an option, CTE now supports exporting the unique, final texture as seen in the editor, without making you do all that texture blending yourself. This opens up your options a little bit, in case your application of choice doesn’t do things that way.
Swing by the Canyon Terrain Editor page to pick up Beta 2, and let me know what kind of cool stuff you make with it. Feedback is always welcome!
